Social-Emotional Learning
As part of the District's commitment to supporting the whole child, a team of school counselors, school psychologists, student care specialists and positive behavior coordinators work together with teaching staff to help ensure that all students have access to a variety of resources to support their social emotional development.
Social Emotional Learning: At all levels, all students participate in direct instruction using a developmentally appropriate, evidence based social emotional learning curriculum to build lifelong skills in self awareness, self management, responsible decision making, social awareness and relationship skills.
To address the social emotional needs of students who need support in addition to the Social Emotional Learning curriculum, each school building has at least one school counselor and student care specialist. The district also partners with the Shaker Heights Youth Center for prevention services in our schools at all levels, as well as with the Bellefaire SAY prevention program at the middle and high school. Bellefaire also provides school based mental health services for eligible students at the elementary, middle and high school level.
For concerns about your student’s social emotional development or mental health, please contact your student’s school counselor.
